This matters: several other tours sell the castle ticket on the coach for more than face value. Walking up instead is free but takes 30-40 minutes on a steep 1.5 km road. Tips for the guide and driver are not stated as included, so carry small euro notes.

Morning: Linderhof and the Venus Grotto

You meet at Sonnenstraße 1 at about 8:45 AM, or 8:15 AM from 1 May, and depart at 9:00 AM. The guide points out Munich landmarks on the way out. You reach the Linderhof parking lot around 10 AM, walk slightly uphill about 20 minutes to the Venus Grotto, and tour the artificial cave with its lake for about 15 minutes, live in English. The grotto reopened in 2025 after about 10 years of restoration and only operates from 1 May to 15 October.

From about 11 AM you explore the palace gardens on your own, then join the guided palace tour at 11:40 AM, about 30 minutes in English. The coach departs Linderhof at 12:30 PM. Afternoon: Hohenschwangau and Neuschwanstein

You have about 4 hours in total, which covers lunch at your own expense, the climb or ride up, and the castle.

The guided Neuschwanstein tour begins shortly after 4:00 PM and lasts about 25 minutes with an audio guide. The official castle tour length elsewhere is given as about 30-35 minutes, so treat 25-35 minutes as the realistic window. The return coach departs at 5:30 PM and you are back in Munich in the evening.

The Honest Note

This is roughly 4 hours of coach travel, plus the Linderhof and transfer legs, for about 25-35 minutes inside Neuschwanstein and 30 minutes inside Linderhof. That ratio is true of every Linderhof day trip, not just this one, but you should book it knowing it. If you want more time around Neuschwanstein itself, a single-castle day gives it: the small-group van tour with hotel pickup spends the whole day around the castle and village.

Fitness, Mobility and Health

The listing is not recommended for travellers with poor cardiovascular health and asks for at least a moderate fitness level. There are over 300 steps to climb inside Neuschwanstein Castle, and the walk up from the village is about 1.5 km on a steep road, 30-40 minutes on foot, unless you pay cash for the shuttle or carriage. The tour is not suitable for wheelchair users. The Venus Grotto path is slightly uphill and takes about 20 minutes each way.

Who Should Book a Different Day

There is no hotel pickup, so travellers who want door-to-door service should pick the small-group van tour with hotel pickup instead. If 10.5 hours is too long, the only shorter option is the half-day skip-the-line tour, 7 hours and back by 2:20 PM, though it skips Linderhof. Ask the seller to confirm the meeting point and check-in time, because the arrival time changes twice a year: about 8:45 AM normally, 8:15 AM from 1 May. The cancellation terms are clear: cancel at least 24 hours before the scheduled departure for a full refund, so set a reminder the day before.

What to Bring

Bring euros in cash for the shuttle bus or horse carriage up the hill, and for lunch and tips. Wear shoes you can climb in, because the uphill walk is 30-40 minutes on a steep road if you skip the shuttle. Leave backpacks and bulky bags at the coach, as they cannot go inside Neuschwanstein, and photography is not allowed in the castle.

Children under 14 must be with an adult inside.

Closures That Change the Day

The Venus Grotto leg runs only from 1 May to 15 October 2026, and outside those dates the tour operates without it. The Marienbrücke can close for ice, snow or storms, usually for much of the winter, and the shuttle bus and carriages stop in snow and ice, leaving the walk up as the only option. Neuschwanstein closes on 24, 25 and 31 December and 1 January, and winter castle hours run 10:00-16:00, which still fits a tour whose castle slot is shortly after 4:00 PM only in the warm season.
